Pel Pals

May 14, 2014

“Pel Pals” is a newfound pen pal program for speakers of the dragon language. The goal is to get people who are learning the language active and practicing with each other in the form of written letters! Check out the signup thread to get started.

Now that we've developed the language, we ought to use it! The Pel Pals program is something I'm really excited about and I hope a lot of people in the community will get a chance to participate. It not only gives you a chance to practice the language in a tangible way but in doing so we can expand and refine it even further as we figure out translations that are missing or invented words that could use better alternatives.

Most of all, have fun, and let's see where this goes!

I have two questions: will learners be able to work on their language and how will this be accessible?

Of course, the idea is to help learn! Can you explain more about your second question?

Oooh I am liking this idea! Quick question: Is this strictly letters or could we do it through, say, email?

You could do it through email too. If that's what you want, make sure to mention it when you sign up.

It'd be nice if there was some medium set up that would only trade the addresses once both were input or something to protect peoples' identity. That'd probably help get the more paranoid people to jump into the idea.

Just a thought.

It's a nice thought. I can't think of a way it could work though. For example, someone could give a fake address and they'd obtain their partner's address anyway. If someone isn't comfortable giving out their mailing address, then the Pel Pals program isn't for them. There is always the option of doing it over email.

This is a great idea. I have to ask- Will we be communicating in the form of the Symbols, or simply the pronunciation of the word?

Whichever you prefer. When you sign up you can specify if you want to use the dragon runes or write in the normal alphabet.
