Non-Canon Memrise Course

September 4, 2014

Thanks to the hard work of community members hiithFoduiiz, and VaraX, a new Dovahzul course is now available on Memrise! This course focuses on the non-canon words invented by the community, and includes over 1,000 words and audio pronunciation. If you'd like to give feedback or suggestion changes to the course, head on over to this thread.

An updated canon course is also on the way, so stay tuned. In the meantime, happy learning!

This is awesome! Really excited to learn this, but I'm not even finished with the Canon course. Haha. Thanks a bunch though.

The non-canon course can be taken alongside the canon course.

I literally found it just a bit ago before revisiting the site today. I didn't know when it was made and was hesitant to join because of the fairly regular word adjustments. Beforehand I was considering making my own small course featured strictly around semi-canon words. Nox hi! My journal entries shall grow with your generous contributions!

This is a fair worry, but we editors (but probably mostly me) will be constantly working to keep it up-to-date. This is also why we created this forum thread and a similar one on the Memrise course.

Oh and also, does the memrise course cover the basics and then go advanced, because that would be nice compared to just random words?

A fluency test has been discussed on the community wall, and some ideas have been thrown around, but nothing has been planned or confirmed. I was just mentioning it because some people *cough cough* have doubts about it.

The Memrise course does become more advanced toward the end, and of course items/words are sorted into relevant categories too. It's not all randomly listed words like the original canon course.

I wouldn't quite say that it gets more advanced. It might actually be hardest in the beginning, because it covers more technical and gramatical junk. It's really just sorted into categories, though efforts were made to put more frequently used ones in the beginning. It's not quite so simple to classify the aspects of learning a new language.

About the updated canon course... What will be better about it? Will it include more words? More pronunciation audio? I'm curious, i'm still learning the canon part of the language :)
