Paarthurnax's Speech

Why does Parthurnaax keep saying Krosis sometimes? I looked it up and it translates to "sorrow", but why would he say that?

The word krosis is used in a lot of ways to express general sorrow or regret, kind of like "sorry," "pardon me," or "that's too bad." Here are some of Paarthurnax's lines with expanded translations.

"But I do not know the Thu'um you seek. Krosis. It cannot be known to me."

"But I do not know the Shout you seek, sadly. It cannot be known to me."

"But you have indulged my weakness for speech long enough. Krosis. Now I will answer your question."

"But you have indulged my weakness for speech long enough. Pardon me / apologies (sorry for my weakness for speech). Now I will answer your question."

"Krosis. No. I know little of what has passed below in the long years I have lived here."

"Sadly, no. I know little of what has passed below in the long years I have lived here."

Here's another line of Odahviing's, when he first mentions that you can only reach Skuldafn by wing:

"Ah. Well. Hmm... krosis. There is one... detail about Skuldafn I neglected to mention."

"Ah. Well. Hmm...sadly for you, there is one... detail about Skuldafn I neglected to mention."

I always thought that it was used as an apology.
