So I'm starting this discussion again. I've a few Ideas on military rank structures.

Using solely cannon dictionary works is definitely difficult, but not impossible, so here's my ideas for two potential officer rank systems:

Idea One (Conceptually based on the ranks of the Israeli Defense Forces Officer ranks,):

Officers:

[Naar Konahrik] Naar Konahrik (from *Rav Aluf Elyon)- Captain General, Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, Fleet Admiral

[Jun Konahrik] Jun Konahrik from (Rav Aluf)- General, Colonel General, Air Chief Marshal, Admiral

[Kaal Konahrik] Kaal Konahrik (from *Aluf Rishon)- Lieutenant General, Sub-colonel General, Air Marshal, Vice Admiral

[Konahrik] Konahrik (from Aluf)- Major General, Air Vice Marshal, Rear Admiral

[Kun Konahrik] Kun Konahrik (from Tat Aluf)- Brigadier General, Brigade General, Brigadier, Air Commodore, Commodore

[Frul Konahrik] Frul Konahrik (from Aluf Mishneh)- Colonel, Group Captain, Captain

[Konahrik Middovah] Konahrik Middovah (from Sgan Aluf)- Lieutenant Colonel, Wing Commander, Commander

[Du'ul Kulaan] Du'ul Kulaan from (Rav Seren)- Major, Squadron Leader, Lieutenant Commander

[Kulaan] Kulaan (from Seren)- Captain, Flight Lieutenant, Lieutenant (Navy), Captain Lieutenant

[Middovah] Middovah (from Segen)- Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, Senior Lieutenant, Flying Officer, Sub-Lieutenant, Lieutenant Junior Grade

[Ziist Middovah] Ziist Middovah (from Segen mishne)- Second Lieutenant, Pilot Officer, Acting Sub-Lieutenant, Ensign, Younger Lieutenant

Warrant Officers:

[Jun Vahlok] Jun Vahlok- Chief Warrant Officer

[Kaal Vahlok] Kaal Vahlok- Master Warrant Officer

[Vahlok Kinbok] Vahlok Kinbok- Lead Warrant Officer

[Wuth Vahlok] Wuth Vahlok- Senior Warrant Officer

[Goraan Vahlok] Goraan Vahlok-Junior Warrant Officer

NCOs:

[Naar Qolaas se Lahvu] Naar Qolaas se Lahvu- Sergeant Major of the Army, Army Sergeant Major

[Naar Qolaas se Ronax] Naar Qolaas se Ronax- Regimental Sergeant Major

[Naar Qolaas se Uth] Naar Qolaas se Uth- Command Sergeant Major

[Naar Qolaas] Naar Qolaas  (from the idea that a Sergeant Major is at the highest point or summit of his career)- Sergeant Major

[Diist Qolaas] Diist Qolaas- First Sergeant

[Kaal Qolaas] Kaal Qolaas (I’m using Kaal instead of In because I think it sounds better)- Master Sergeant

[Qolaas Kinbok] Qolaas Kinbok- Sergeant First Class, Gunnery Sergeant

[Qolaas] Qolaas (from the Turkish Chavush, which means Sergeant, Herald, and Messenger; Qolaas has the second two translations, it makes sense to give it the first)- Sergeant

[Jun Kendov] Jun Kendov (from Rav Turai)- Corporal, Master Corporal, Lance Sergeant

[Kaal Kendov] Kaal Kendov (from Turai Rishon)- Corporal, First Corporal

[Kendov Kinbok] Kendov Kinbok- Specialist, Lance Corporal, Private First Class

[Kendov] Kendov- Private

No -iik suffixing idea--Here Sinon is being used where s'gan is used in hebrew; konahrik where 'aluf is used in hebrew; jun konahrik is rav-'aluf and du'ul kulaan is rav-seren. using latin characters because thuum.org is one of those weird sites which doesn't like non-English alphabet characters.

Naar Konahrik - Captain General, General of the Army, Field Marshal

Jun Konahrik - Colonel General, Army General, General

Kaal Konahrik - Sub-colonel General, Division General, Lieutenant General

Konahrik - Corps General, Major General

Kun Konahrik - Brigade General, Brigadier General

Frul Konahrik - Colonel Major, Brigadier

Ziist Konahrik - Colonel, Thousandman

Sinon Konahrik - Sub Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel

Du'ul Kulaan - Commandant, Major

Kaal Kulaan - Captain, Centurion /* believe it or not in some militaries, they use centurion for the leader of a company as a company is around a hundred men */

Kulaan - Lieutenant, First Lieutenant

Sinon Kulaan - Sub Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant (Important to remember that You are a second lieutenant before you're a first lieutenant. Just like the winner of a race is in First and the runner up is in second)

Naar Qolaas - Sergeant Major

Jun Qolaas - First Sergeant

Kaal Qolaas - Master Sergeant

Diist Qolaas - Sergeant First Class

Wuth Qolaas - Staff Sergeant

Qolaas - Sergeant

Jun Kendov- Corporal

Kaal Kendov- Lance Corporal

Diist Kendov- Private First Class

Kendov- Private

This system is based partially on the ranks in Israeli Modern Hebrew used by the Israeli Defense force. And as such would be appropriate for all branches of the Military: Ground, Air, Space, Navy, Amphibious. Though the Kulaan ranks are based on the old system of rank for the Israeli Naval Defense force's subalternate ranks: Du'ul Kulaan=rav-khovel, Kaal Kulaan=khovel Rishon, Kulaan=khovel, and Sinon Kulaan=s'gan khovel. This system acknowleges the difficulties of having a limited word base and allows us to get a ful rank system without the need to invent new words.

Personally, I like this system and would replace Konahrik and Kulaan with words related to the Air and Naval forces from legacy, like Okaazin and Ruveyzun for the navy, and  Lovokin and  Lokuyiz or something to that effect, respectively, If we were still using legacy. I think I almost like this version of the ranks best.
