What Is the phonetic differance when pronouncing Ni or Nii?

If they arn't differant is "Nid Ni Nii"("No not it." such as for a game of tag.) proper grammar?

Also perhaps phonetic spellings in the dictionary could prove helpful to newbies like myself in the future~ Just a suggestion. Thank you for the help!!

As confusing as this makes speech, the difference would be subtle, if any. Your example "Nid ni nii" is grammatically correctly. Nid and nii would be stressed while in most cases ni would be unstressed.

Oftentimes you'd see a shortened version, "Ni nii," to mean "I'm not it." In this case having "Nid" helps differentiate between "No, I'm not it" and "I'm it."
